The Adrar Plateau

Multiple shapes at multiple angles ......

.. from a lunar landscape across the sands to ridges, seemingly hand-cut out of the skies.

Passing the occasional modern building constructed from the readily available local stone  ...

... and huts built in the ancient traditional style, thatched with palm leaves.

We headed for the valley between these mountain ranges ....

.... as the gravel track became ever more undulating. Not a problem for our transport.

Turning left again, some 12 kilometres after leaving the main road, suddenly we arrived ...

at the bottom of a valley, protected from the wind and swirling sand by the nearby cliff faces was the pretty little village of Terjit .. and what a miraculous discovery it turned out to be !
